Can you take the Washington knowledge test online?
You cannot take the Washington knowledge test at home. DOL says you must take and pass the knowledge test in person at an approved testing location.
A testing school may give the test on paper or on a computer, but it must be in an area separate from the classroom or at a time when no class is in session, with an examiner running it (WAC 308-110-030(3); the paper or computer format is in WAC 308-110-010(5)).
What you can do online: DOL has an online practice test in English and Spanish, and a free online work-zone and first-responder course, which first-time applicants under 25 must pass.
After the tests you still apply at a DOL licensing office, where you show your identity documents and Social Security number (if you have none, you sign a declaration), pass a vision screening, have your photo taken and pay the fees.
