Road signs on the New York permit test

The permit test has 20 questions and 4 of them are about road signs. To pass you must answer at least 14 of the 20 correctly and at least 2 of the 4 road sign questions correctly.

Speed is in miles per hour. The Driver's Manual gives kilometres per hour in brackets, for example 55 mph (88 km/h).

If no speed limit is posted, drive no more than 55 mph. In New York City the limit is 25 mph (40 km/h) unless another limit is posted. The manual gives no other default limit for cities or residential streets.

To study the signs, use the DMV page "Road Signs You Must Know" and Chapter 4 of the Driver's Manual (Traffic Control). Both are in English. The manual is published only in English and Spanish; there is no Chinese edition and no translated version of the road signs page.
