Road signs: what the DMV says and where to study them
The DMV does not say how road signs appear in the knowledge test: it gives no number of sign questions and no separate sign section. All test questions come from the California Driver's Handbook, which has a section on signs (section 7).
California speed limits are in miles per hour. When no sign says otherwise, the speed limit is 25 mph in business or residential districts. The handbook also gives 25 mph near schools and 15 mph at blind intersections, in alleys and at some railroad crossings.
The Chinese edition of the handbook (traditional characters, DL 600 C (REV. 6/2025) as printed in its footer) has the signs section, titled 標誌, with pictures of the signs. The DMV also lists road sign flashcards as study material, and offers a Chinese PDF of the word list for the Class C driving test (DL 80).
